When life gives you grapefruits, make a split!

TEAM STEREO and AS WE GO pick up the concept of a joint release and turn it into the ultimate tribute to friendship and the punk spirit. For both bands it has always been the simple joy of making music that was the most important and some friendships within and in-between the bands are lasting more than two decades now. AS WE GO as well as TEAM STEREO released their debut albums in 2016 and they have supported each other at shows since the early beginnings. So nothing here is forced or long thought out, it’s the complete opposite: This was about damn time!

On the new EP TEAM STEREO leave in parts behind the more massive punk rock sound of their self-titled debut album (Redfield Records, 2016) and take a determined turn on emotional alternative rock that isn’t just wallowing in nostalgia, it invites bands like BASEMENT and SAMIAM to the party in equal measure. AS WE GO from Cologne know their origins well and express them musically as well. The ingredients are the same as for their debut ‘Stumble & Stand’ (Redfield Digital, 2016) but the implementation gets more and more sophisticated. The band that is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year as well, is leaving no doubt that punk rock is still refreshing and relevant, when the heart is in the right place and everyone can sing along. Chrisse, singer of TEAM STEREO, explains the concept of the release together with AS WE GO the following: “We didn’t want the split to be too polished. The listener should be able to hear the fun we have and a certain spontaneity. In order to achieve that you cannot hide behind exaggerated sounds and effects who don’t fit to both bands anyway.”

Like they did before, TEAM STEREO rather wrap up something political in something more personal. The idea is not talk for others but express something important nevertheless: “’Not Loving You’ is based on the conclusion that the sympathy of others should never be taken for granted. We are all social creatures and depend on each other – in minor and major aspects – so no one should act like an asshole. The second song ‘Standards’ is about the disillusionment of growing up. While being young, we’re constantly told that we can be and achieve everything. When we grow older, things are somewhat sobering up but we also appreciate the little things more and our own little happiness”, says the singer of the band.

Under the motto “Five Years by the Sea – Still Not Close to Home” the two tracks by AS WE GO came into being. ‘City’ and ‘Brothers’ are screaming right out of the souls of Björn, Moe, Andrew, Thomas and Thomas. Friendship, team spirit and the good feeling of knowing where you’re home, is not only audible in every text line. Every chord feels like a high-five with your best friend or the best road-trip you ever did. Open the doors of the van, get in and sing slong – next to FLATLINERS, THE WONDER YEARS, THE LOVED ONES and HOT WATER MUSIC there’s some more space on the tape.
